My name is Ms. Tomlinson and I am pleased and excited to have your child in my 8th grade STEM class for this school year!
The purpose STEM education is to:
- Prepare students for the 21st century job market by teaching them science, technology, engineering and mathematics in an interdisciplinary and applied way.
- Stem education fosters critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and digital literacy skills that are essential for success in various field and discipline.
My major goals are; by the end of the year, students will be able to:
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Foster interest in stem by providing hands-on opportunities for students to engage in projects and experiments, which can lead to deeper comprehension and enthusiasm for these subjects.
- Encourage creativity and innovation
- Provide diversity and inclusivity
Throughout the year, students will be assessed during class so as to determine where they are at and how to improve areas of weakness. The following is the school’s grading procedure which will be used in my class for assessments.
- Classwork/Participation 30%
- Test/Assessments 30%
- Projects 15%
- Quizzes 15%
- Homework 10%
