Prairie-Hills Junior High School
Art Society
2014-2015
When do we meet? Tuesdays after school from 2:45-4:30
Sponsor: Ms. Leveston
The main mission of the Art Society is to provide an environment for students, who are either gifted in art or simply interested in art, the opportunity to enhance their artistic skills and knowledge exposure. It is a community where these students can collaborate with other children who share the same artistic interests as them. Members also get the opportunity to meet people within the community who are practicing artists or have a career in an art-related field.
The Art Society engages in many different activities throughout the year. Each activity relates to the mission and overall goals of the group. Below are some examples of things we do each year.
Art Society Activities
Studio art project days (Days when we meet to learn and practice new art techniques)
Face painting at PHJH’s Family Fun Night
Creating decorations for school events (Winter Band Concert, Black History Program, etc.)
Youth Art Month (YAM) School-Wide Art Contest
‘Meet The Artist’ series (A visiting artist or person in an art-related field meets with the group to offer their expertise)
Volunteering at the PHESD 144 Art Exhibition
Field trips to museums (The Art Institute of Chicago)
If you are a teacher, parent, or community member who is interested in volunteering your time with the Art Society, please feel free to contact Ms. Leveston via email at dleveston@phsd144.net.
