What is a Paraprofessional?
A paraprofessional provides assistance and support for a teacher in both inside and outside the classroom. The paraprofessional job includes working with a student one-on-one or with a group of students in the regular classroom setting . The paraprofessional supports children in academics, social, and behavioral management. The paraprofessional supports the teacher by doing general clerical duties. Paraprofessionals may also have other assignments like, monitoring playground activities and bus duties.
A special education paraprofessional provides one-on-one services or group assistance to students with disabilities. A special education paraprofessional works in a special needs classroom. Paraprofessionals many duplicate and adapt learning materials and organize tools for students with disabilities. Many paraprofessionals support students who are possible being integrated in a general education classroom.
When a person is hired as an educational paraprofessional, he or she may be required to obtain a paraprofessional certification in the state that he or she is plannig to working in. Many paraprofessionals have an associate degree or a bachelor degree in the education field. Other paraprofessional have a bachelor degree in a similar field.
