Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you that a student/staff member at Fieldcrest Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. We are following guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to protect the health and safety of our students and staff. The student/staff member will be quarantined for 5 days and return to school as long as they are not displaying any symptoms.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of this situation, and to encourage you to observe your child to ensure that they don’t exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 then they must remain home for five days. If symptoms improve and your child is fever-free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medicine, they may return to school wearing a mask for days 6 through 10. If they are unable to wear a mask, they should stay home for an additional five days. We are prepared to provide remote devices for all students who are quarantined due to COVID-19. However, the devices must be returned when the student returns to school.
Please be advised that the symptoms of COVID-19 are below:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
If your child displays any of these symptoms, please keep them home and have them tested for COVID-19. There are free COVID Testing kits available via the resources listed below.

Greetings Parents and Guardians
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful and safe summer. I am excited to welcome everyone back to the 22-23 school year! I am so excited about engaging ALL of our students for a fabulous school year. We have so many exciting curricular lessons planned to encourage, motivate and stimulate our student’s minds and growth. This year’s theme of “Pursuing Excellence with Equity, Empathy and Empowerment” will focus on equity for students, staff, and community members. My goal this year is to ensure that everyone understands the importance of equity and how equity improves economics, security and gives access to positive educational needs for students. In addition, I plan to ensure that, amid their learning, we focus on the 7 mindsets that will assist with SEL (Social and Emotional Learners) and mental wellness. Most importantly, we are committed to ensuring that ALL of our students and staff remain safe and secure. We realize that we are still amid a pandemic, so we are conducting the following to ensure that our students remain safe:
1.) Temperatures checked daily
2.) Optional masks worn by students and staff, but highly recommended
3.) Weekly COVID testing
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 24, 2022. The school hours for the 2022-2023 school year are as follows: Breakfast from 8:20 a.m. until 8:40 a.m. for breakfast. Students will enter the building at 8:40. Instructions will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. The instructional day concludes at 3:00 p.m. (2:50 for Pre- Kindergarten). Your child must attend classes daily. As we all know, continuous absenteeism hinders learning.
During the first two weeks of school, teachers will be assigned to various locations around the perimeter to assist parents. In addition, there will be tables in the front of the building to house the student's supplies. Please place your child’s name on their bags of school supplies. Once students have entered the building, the staff will deliver the supplies to the classrooms. School supplies lists can be located on Fieldcrest’s district webpage. Please click the link under school supplies.
I am asking for the help of parents to stress the importance of not sharing food. In addition, we are a peanut-free district. Therefore, please refrain from allowing your students to bring in food that contains peanuts. Students are allowed to bring in a cold lunch. Last, it is extremely important that you discuss the use of cell phones in the building. Cell phones MUST remain in the student backpack in off mode. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Cook.
Please join us on September 20, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for our own “Meet the Teacher Night”.
Parents, we make the 2022-2023 school year a PHENOMENAL year for our students. Won’t you join Prairie-Hills as we work toward “One Band, One Sound”.
Thank you,
Mrs. Kimberly Cook
