• Dear Parents/Guardians:

    Welcome to 3rd grade!

My name is Ms. McNabb and I will be your child’s third grade teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.  This is my seventh year teaching third grade at Prairie Hills District 144.  I have taught second, third, and fifth grades previously.  Prior to coming to the STEAM Academy, I was a 3rd grade teacher at Highlands Elementary.  I am very excited for the upcoming school year and look forward to working with all the students and helping them grow and succeed throughout the year.

In the first few weeks, students will be busy learning the procedures, routines, and rules of the classroom and school.  We will also be engaged in many social activities so the students can establish relationships with their peers as well as myself.  It is very important that the students feel like the classroom is a safe environment and a comfortable place to do their best work.  Students will be assessed in reading and math using the MAP and I-Ready assessments during the first weeks of September.  The information gained from these assessments will be shared with you at parent/teacher conferences.

Third grade is a year of tremendous growth for your child!  My goal is to have every student reading and comprehending above grade level.  Also, in math, my goal is to have everyone able to mentally answer multiplication/division problems, understand fractions, be able to solve problems and write to describe how they solved the problem.  In writing, students will be able to go through the writing process to develop argumentative, explanatory, and narrative writing pieces.  I believe every student has the potential to reach these goals with hard work and determination!

I am very excited for the upcoming school year and am anticipating a successful year for your child.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 708.985.2401 x6108, class dojo, or jmcnabb@phsd144.net.

    Let’s have a great year!
