•                       WELCOME TO THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR

My name is Ms. Cheryl Dykas Fierke (pronounced Fur-Key)

I am the speech language pathologist at Highlands Elementary School.

I am usually at Highlands School on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

I work with students who have differences in sound production/difficulty saying speech sounds correctly,
have difficulty naming, have difficulty understanding and/or using language, as well as students who stutter.
Students needing help with communication skills are usually seen individually or in small groups during the
school day.  Our lessons focus on the specific speech sounds and/or language skills with which the student is
having difficulty.  Because new speech language skills do not automatically transfer to use in the classroom, the home,
and other speaking situations, teachers, parents, and other family members are vital in the process of reminding the
students to use their newly learned speech language skills when speaking in situations outside the speech room.

If you have any concerns about your child's communication skills, feel free to contact me.

              I can be reached at (708) 335-9773, extension 2534 or at cfierke@phsd144.net

It is necessary for speech language pathologists, students, teachers, and family members to work together to
              facilitate improvements in communication skills.
