Curriculum Maps
Prairie-Hills School District 144 curriculum maps are developed using the standards most appropriate to each course, including the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Illinois State Standards. These standards guide instruction and help ensure students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success and future readiness.
The Common Core State Standards are a collaborative, state-led initiative coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). Developed with input from teachers, school administrators, and education experts, the standards provide a clear and consistent framework for English language arts and mathematics.
The standards outline the knowledge and skills students in grades K–12 should develop to prepare for success in college, career training, and the workforce.
The Common Core State Standards:
- Emphasize rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills.
- Align with college and career expectations.
- Provide clear, consistent, and understandable learning expectations.
- Build upon the strengths and lessons of existing state standards.
- Draw on insights from high-performing countries to help prepare students to succeed in a global economy and society.
- Are informed by research and evidence to support effective teaching and student learning.
