Welcome back to the 2020 - 2021 school year.

My name is Mrs. Barry and I look forward to another year here at Mae Jemison school as the physical education teacher.

Studets will meet for physical education three times during a two week period. Our weeks will alternate between a Blue Week and a Gold Week schedule. Physical education days may differ from week to week, so please refer to the gym days sheet. In the event your child's participation is limited or restricted due to a medical condition, he/she will be excused with a parental note or a phone call. A doctor's note will be needed in non-participation extends a period of time.

For the safety of your child, it is important that he/she is wearing an athletic shoe for participation in activity. If a child does not have the proper footwear, he/she will not be allowed to participate in activity, this in turn could affect his/her physical education grade.

Due to COVID-19 and for the safety of all students a number of our activities will look different this year. Students will be staying 6 to 12 feet away from classmates and classes will be held outside as much as posssible. This will help everyone stay healthy and safe. While in the gym we will continue to wear our masks; while outside we have the opportunity to take our masks off while engaged in vigorous activity. We will be outside unless heat and humidity temperatures are too high, it is raining, or if the temperatures are at freezing. A sweater or a jacket may be needed as the temperatures become cooler. Students are also allowed to bring a water bottle to p.e. class if needed.

Participation and effort; performance assessments and/or projects; homework; and test/quizzes will all be calculated towards your child's physical education grade.

Our physical education rules line up with our PBIS program with be safe, be respectful and be responsible. Students have been working together to create these rules.
