The district covers 8.1 square miles, which includes portions of four communities in south suburban Cook County, IL: Country Club Hills, Hazel Crest, Markham and Oak Forest.

The mission of Prairie-Hills Elementary School District #144 is to empower all students to become lifelong learners who are active participants in their own education; to establish high expectations for all students and staff; to provide safe and secure schools; to develop a curriculum that provides enriching and challenging experiences; and to promote equal opportunities and access to tools and technology for a quality education in an environment where the community and the schools work together.
