Curriculum & Instruction Department
Welcome Back to the 2009-2010 school year!
The C & I department is working to ensure that our students are challenged within their daily curriculum. Our teachers have worked diligently to revise and update our curriculum maps in the areas of Reading and Math. These curriculum maps are available on our website. In addition, our Rubric committee has completed our Reading and Writing rubrics and they are also available on our website.
We will continue to provide professional development opportunities for all staff, as well as parents. This school year begins our Year 1 RtI implementation in the area of Reading for grades K-8. A letter discussing RtI will be sent home to parents from each building site within the next couple of weeks. RtI is geared towards ensuring that students are provided every available opportunity to learn at their independent instructional level. RtI also ensures that additional interventions are provided for those students needing additional instructional time to master skills.
We have selected a new district assessment. Our students will take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) provided by NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) in the areas of Reading and Math. The MAP is an adaptive assessment which means that as the student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, and the questions adjust up or down in difficulty. The MAP assessment will provide a wealth of information to teachers, parents and administrators regarding the academic progress of the students.
I am always open and available to talk to and work with parents regarding doing what is best for ALL of our students. I believe that together WE CAN be the difference and make the difference in our lives, our community, our society, our country and our world!
"Never be satisfied with what you achieve, because it all pales in comparison with what you are capable of doing in the future."
Sincerely,
Dr. Kimako Patterson
